Work in Progress

Since this is the beginning, I thought I’d share where I am with my works in progress.

I have one main project I am concentrating on, and that is a short story competition entry. I am about halfway through the first draft, 2,600 + words. I’ve got the plot figured out, it’s just writing it down. Sometimes I wonder if the plot’s alright, but I’ll just keep going with it.

I also have a fantasy novel I am working on, and have been working on, and I’m just over 30,000 words into the first draft. I’ve had this idea in my head for 4 years, and have been writing it since a year ago, though only seriously this past two weeks. I’m trying to do it NaNoWriMo style and bang out the words, because I tend to fixate on details and not move the story forward. It’s not going well. I’ve only gotten 6,000 words done this past two weeks, but baby steps.

The biggest challenge I am facing now is how to fix my prose. I have the ideas, but not the execution. All the tips online say to read intentionally, and to write. So I’m working on that. It’s hard to see the progress though, and I’m constantly worried I’m ingraining bad habits into my writing.
